Release Day: Call of Hywilkin by Missy Sheldrake

Missy Sheldrake’s new addition to the Keepers of the Wellsprings Series is out today! Find out more about it here.

The Keepers of the Wellsprings Series

I’m so excited to announce the fourth book in my Keepers of the Wellsprings series: Call of Hywilkin, which will be released on Amazon March 3 (Buy it Today)! On release day, March 3, I’ll be offering books 1-3 free to celebrate the release of book 4!

When I started writing and illustrating this series, I really wanted to tell a story that was rich with fantasy, but not overly dark or mired with war and violence. I wanted to show the light side of fantasy: the cheerful, magical, uplifting side which I always drink up whenever it emerges in a story, and which always seems to be so fleeting in fantasy tales. I wanted to tell a story that would capture the hearts of young and old alike. Don’t get me wrong, my books aren’t void of conflict and evil. There is mild violence and not-so-mild wickedness, but it’s those moments in my stories which are the fleeting ones. In the pages of my books, you will find fairies, Mages, Paladins, Elves, Dreamwalkers, Princes and Princesses, and even dragons. You’ll travel through a world rich with magic and wonder. You’ll make new, unforgettable friends.

In Book Four of the Keepers of the Wellsprings series…

A fallen prince, vanished. A ransom on His Majesty’s Elite demanded by shaky allies. A kingdom teetering on the brink of darkness.

Azi and Rian find themselves on an urgent quest to Hywilkin, a harsh land of ice and snow reigned by heartless men with no trust in kindness or beauty, and a cruel intolerance for magic of any kind.
Lurking in the far corners of the world, the Sorcerers of Dusk threaten their quest, weaving darkness into their hearts and minds. In Brindelier, they lure Tib into their dangerous plots as he investigates the conspiring shadows of the city.

Appealing to a Keeper of a Wellspring for an offering is no easy feat—especially in Hywilkin, where access to the abandoned magical Source remains forbidden. The Champions of Light must prevail, or Brindelier’s All-Source and all of the Known Lands will fall forever into the grips of Sorcery.

About the Author
Missy Sheldrake is an author/illustrator who has been conjuring images of fairies in one form or another since she was very young. The wind in the trees and the rich scent of forest earth are her most treasured sources of inspiration, and on most mornings you will find her wandering the wooded paths, dreaming of the next adventure she hopes to put to the page.

Missy was born in Connecticut and attended Western Connecticut State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Art with a concentration in painting and illustration. Even then, in her free time, she was writing. She moved to Northern Virginia several years ago and lives there now, on the outskirts of Washington D.C., with her true love and their son. She published her first novel, Call of Kythshire, in March of 2015 and intends to keep writing as long as the fairies allow it.

Freeday Friday!

Today is the day to get your year’s worth of Free Books by self-pubbed authors like myself. Self-pubbed books bridge the typical genre lines, are able to stretch their wings and give you an experience unlike most books you’d find on the shelf.

I want to point out to you that my novella, Edge of Desperation is free as well.

Assistant Professor Reggie Wolfe has simple goals: to help his engineering students succeed and to stop male Wielders from falling into Taint without drawing attention from the Bureau of Wielder Services. A select few can Wield the Nerve of the World. Women Wielders do so freely, without any repercussions. For men, it’s another story. They fight Taint and Corruption for the same power.

Reggie’s easy life upends when Kyle, a young male Wielder, lands at his feet, trapped in his Taint and pursued by the very criminal Wielder cults the Bureau is fighting. As the two work to control Kyle’s Taint, Reggie realizes he will do everything he can to help Kyle, even follow him into darkness.

Edge of Desperation is the exciting opening novella to the Wielder World series—gay urban fantasy full of magic, suspense, and dedication born of trial and blood.

This Year Support Indy Authors

I’m a Virgo Rising, which means I like lists. I’ve already got a 60-some book Want To Read list that I will get halfway through. It’s full of self-pubbed authors like myself.

So this year, as a reader, I challenge you to Support Indy Authors. When you are thinking of reading a new book, why not pick from one of these beauties! There is fantasy and sci-fi, romance, thrillers, historical fiction, mysteries, non fiction! Everything you could want.

One thing I’d noticed with the self-published books I’ve read is that I’m finding fresh new stories. They are not pigeon-holed into something the traditional markets think will sell well. These are books that break the rules and for many, it’s a wonderful experiment. Give a independent author a read. You’ll open up a whole new bookshelf you didn’t know held books you love.

Goodbye 2016 – Hello 2017!

The Year is Dead, all Hail the Year!

2016 is coming to a close. This year had goods and bads all around. I got to do a big road trip and see the countryside. I attended some fun fandom cons. I made great buddies on Goodreads. I began my entire Nat Kennedy authorship and published two novellas in the Wielder World. I finished another novel for NaNoWriMo. I learned that I much prefer an outline than writing without any idea of where I’m going.

I didn’t get everything I had planned done. I wanted to complete the next novel in the Wielder Series. But that got put on hold for other writerly projects.

So, now, it’s my agenda for 2017.

goals-1

I will finish Afflicted to the Core – the third Wielder World novel – and get that published, hopefully in late spring. I need to line up betas for it, but I’ve already got the cover art!

I will finish the first novel to my new series – The World of Two Moons. The rough draft is done and in good shape and after Afflicted, it will hopefully come about in a few months. No cover art on that yet.

I will start another novel in either Wielder World or Word of Two Moons. Not sure which yet, but something new will happen!

I want to finish two novellas for anthologies. I hope that will be a great way to get my name out there. I already have two anthologies pegged for this. The first one is due in March.

Those are my goals. I don’t have any ‘write every day’ or ‘spend less time spamming people on Goodreads’. I will just try to focus on the big goals and let the dust and sand fill in the cracks. I want to continue writing and I want to write great romantic fantasy that makes people excited and happy and rooting for the heroes.

Novel Complete

So, I’d finished the 50,000 word requirement for NaNoWriMo a few days ago, but today, on the second to the last day, I finished the novel at 88,000 words. It’s so awesome! Can I say that about my own work? It’s going to polish up good and shiny. I hope to get it out to you next year and I hope you love it as much as I do.

Here’s to the Black Arrow and the World of Two Moons!

NaNo Bagged and Tagged

I’m done with 50,000 words of human and cat people adventures… well, not done yet. The novel is only half complete, but I’m very excited about the plot, the action, the romance and the steamier moments. I can’t wait to finish the World of Two Moons and deliver it all to you.

I will need a new title though. Maybe a title naming contest when I’m closer to publishing. Fun times.
